We have used this parable of Jesus before, but I want us to look at it again but maybe in a different way.
In the final analysis, Jesus is letting us know that our lives;
will not be judged on our fame, but on the basis of our faithfulness.
will not be rewarded based on our genius, but on the basis of our goodness.
These are the things that this parable should accomplish in our lives.
It should comfort us in a personal way.
It should disturb us to the depths of our being.
It should encourage us to do our best.
It should challenge each of us to become a better person.
Before I get into the text, I want you to get these 2 very basic principles into your spirit. The Bible teaches
That you and I are children of God by grace through faith
That you and I are also servants of God with the privilege of being available to minister to others
Because we are children of God and His servants.
He has given us, through the Holy Spirit, supernatural gifts to accomplish the work He has called us to.
Lets look at 3 things today
Notice That The Talents Were Entrusted To Each According To His Ability
Read Matthew 25:15This parable does not emphasize equality. It emphasizes faithfulness
We are unequal in our natural gifts. We are unequal in the opportunities that are open to us.
We are unequal in the advantages that we might have.
We are unequal in human capabilities.
In spite of all of the unequalness, each of us has an equal opportunity to become a good and faithful servant of God!
Let´s Beware Of The Possibility Of Becoming A Twin Brother Or Sister Of The One Talent Servant
This man failed to trust in the good character of the Lord
Satan´s strategy has been to question the goodness of God
The sin of little faith causes us to refrain from attempting to do the big things God wants us to do.
This man was not a bad man. He wasn´t described as cruel, merciless, wasteful or even a slave to his passions.
This man counted his one talent as being of no real importance, it wasn´t needed.
He failed to realize that every talent is precious in God´s sight
This man lacked the faith and courage to take a risk.
We´ve got to trust God to fulfill His promises if we are going to do anything worthwhile
The Good News In This Parable
Each of us has been given talents by the King of Kings and Lord of LordsHe can double our capital (talents) by faithfulness
Someone has said One note is a sound. Add other notes and you have a song.
We can receive the Lord´s approval and praise.
God the Father accepts us and forgives us when we receive His Son Jesus as our Savior.
We gain His approval and praise when we are faithful in using the gifts He has blessed us with.
I believe all of us would like to hear Him say Well Done, Amen?!
We can enter into the joy of the Lord. All of us want to enter into the joy of the Lord in the hereafter.
This parable teaches us that it is possible for us to enter into the joy of the Lord here and now.
OURS CAN BE:
The joy of doing good
The joy of showing God´s love to others
The joy of seeing people come to know Jesus as Savior
The joy of becoming what God wants us to be
Conclusion
We can´t think of ourselves as one talent people.Know this, the little person with a great gospel is mightier than a great person with no gospel!!
If we neglect to use the talents and gifts of God, we will lose them.
Let´s use what God has given us that we might bring glory to Him and that He might be glorified in us.
Matthew 25:14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.
15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.
16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.
17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.
18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord´s money.
19 After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.
20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.
21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
22 He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.
23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
