Learning to Walk

Ephesians 5:1-16

Christian growth may not matter to some

If they have not been born again.
If they are content with just a formal Christianity.
If they are backslidden and in a spiritual rut.

But Christian Growth is Normal for Believers

Growth naturally follows birth.
The evidence of spiritual growth should be evident in all of us.
When we are Learning to Walk we need to "Walk in Love" read Ephesians 5:2

The First Sign of Growth

The gospel is the greatest love story. (God for man)
We are only saved after realizing God´s love for us.
We are to pass love on to others.
This love is proof of a genuine faith.
Proof of discipleship  John 13:35
"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."
Proof of a new life  1 John 3:14
"We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren."
Proof of the Holy Spirit  1 Peter 1:22
"Seeing you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit, unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently."

Walking in God´s love also affects our disposition and our conduct.

We have a greater concern for others.
A greater kindness in our speech and actions.
A greater compassion for those in trouble.
We are a greater example of Jesus in us.

We are to walk in love and we are to Walk as children of Light.

read  Ephesians 5:8
This command reaches from  Ephesians 5:3-14  Light and darkness in the Bible
Light speaks of God and righteousness.
Darkness speaks of Satan and all evil.
Read   Romans 13:11-14
Now lets look at the contrast between darkness in  Ephesians 5:3-5 Fornication, uncleanness, covetousness, filthiness, foolish talking, jesting, whoremongers, unclean persons, covetous person, idolater.
And now look at the contrast in the light   Ephesians 5:9-11   Goodness, righteousness, truth, what is acceptable unto Lord, rejecting and reproving the works of darkness, and verse 14 says  "Christ is the source of Light."

So We Walk in Love, In the Light and We Walk Circumspectly

read  Ephesians 5:15

We walk "looking around" with our eyes open and alert to what is going on around us!

A Person Who Walks Circumspectly

Has his eyes open to the needs of others.
Has his eyes open to the will of God.
Has his eyes open to the signs of the times.

A person who walks circumspectly also seizes their opportunities, realizing the time is short and how serious the situation really is.

So How´s Your Walk?

I Challenge You to Walk.

In Love

In the Light

Keep Looking Around You to See What is Happening.

Ephesians 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children.
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints.
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient, but rather giving of thanks.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words, for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord, walk as children of light.
9 For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth.
10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light, for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise.
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep, for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand, let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day, not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
