Give Me this Mountain

Joshua 14:6-14

After Moses, Joshua Became The Leader.

The Land Was Divided Up Among The Tribes Of Israel.

The Area Given Will Have To Be Conquered And Developed.

Caleb Says In Verse 12  Give Me This Mountain
Which Was The Most Difficult Task.

The Question This Morning is What Motivated Caleb To Press On To Higher Ground?
We Can See 3 Things.

He remembers God´s promise to him

read Joshua 14:6-7

Caleb the spy.

Caleb was sent by Moses 40 years earlier to spy out the land.
The fruit of the land, was flowing with milk and honey.
But Caleb saw beyond this to Hebron, where Abraham met God.

Caleb says in Numbers 14:23-24 We are well able to overcome it.

The majority of the others had great giants and a little God.
Caleb, on the other hand, had a great God and little giants.
The majority were problem conscious, but Caleb was power conscious.

Caleb will now stand on the promises.

He will never forget them.
You will never find him a part of the grumbling crowd.
He is on his way to this better land all through life.

He remembers his own commitment to the Lord

read Joshua 14:8-9

I wholly followed the Lord

Caleb remembers the time of his full surrender.
A man of God, total dedication, committed.

He remembers how he stood apart from the crowd

Can you remember a day of victory?
What about the day you were saved?
what about the time of full surrender?

The sad story of Revelation 2:1-7

Have you left your first love?

Caleb remembers God´s faithfulness to him

read Joshua 14:10-11

The Lord hath kept me alive

Have you thanked God for keeping you alive?
Except for Joshua, all the rest had died.

I am now fourscore and five years old equals 85 years old

Some senior citizen!
Not resting on his laurels.

God had cared for him up to that hour

Grace hath brought me safe thus far

Conclusion

Now, Therefore, Give Me This Mountain

Give me your best.
Give me your toughest task.

Remembering Should Challenge Us

We have a challenge before us as a church.
Accept the challenge.

Move on to higher ground!

God has something very special for us!

We don´t want to be problem conscious we want to be Power conscious!

Joshua 14:6 Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the LORD said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea.
7 Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart.
8 Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God.
9 And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children´s for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God.
10 And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.
11 As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.
12 Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.
13 And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance.
14 Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

Revelation 2:1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name´s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
