Fellowship, Joy and Forgiveness

1 John 1:1-10

A Letter To The Family Of God

Warm, loving and devotional
It deals with sin in the lives of believers
It shows the inconsistency of being loved and not loving

John´s Goals As He Begins His Letter Are These 3 Things

Fellowship with God and His family
Fullness of joy
Forgiveness of sins

Fellowship With God And His Family

read 1 John 1:1-3

John and beginnings

In the beginning was the word  John 1:1
That which was from the beginning  1 John 1:1

John was an I witness

We have heard
We have seen
We have looked upon
Our hands have handled

This eyewitness now gives his testimony

Fellowship with God and His family  1 John 1:3

Fellowship with God is the purpose of life
Fellowship with believers deepens our walk with God
So glad I´m a part of the family of God

Fullness Of Joy

read 1 John 1:4

The human desire for happiness

Happiness depends on the happenings of life
Joy is better
Joy is a spring within, no matter what happens

Believers are to have the joy of the Lord

This is God´s will for us   John 15:11
Do you have the joy of the Lord?

Hindrances to the fullness of joy

Lack of full dedication   John 15:7
Lack of fruitfulness   John 15:8
Lack of love for others   John 15:12-17

Forgiveness Of Sin

read 1 John 1:5-10

Contrasting light from darkness  1 John 1:5-7

The goal is to walk in the light  1 John 1:7

All fall short of that goal  1 John 1:8

When we fail, forgiveness is available

If we confess our sins   1 John 1:9
He is faithful and just to forgive   1 John 1:9

Confession and cleansing is supposed to be our daily experience

Conclusion

Fellowship, Joy And Forgiveness Is All Ours In Christ

Let´s Love The One Who First Loved Us

Let´s Also Love His Family

1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2 For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;
3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
