In the previous verses we see Jesus and his disciples at Caesarea Philippi, in a quiet place with Jesus. And really we all need that quiet time with our Lord.
There are some life-changing lessons for the diciples.
- In vs. 15 Jesus asks Whom say ye that I am?
- Peter´s confession that Jesus is the Christ.
- And the Lord´s revelation for the church.
- Then the most difficult lesson was THE CROSS.
- The disiples learn that jesus is on His way to Calvary.
We are going to look at 3 concerning the Calvary Road.
- The Christ Of Calvary Road
- The Common Reaction To The Calvary Road
- The Call To The Calvary Road
The Christ Of Calvary Road
read Matthew 16:21The Diciples were longing for the Kingdom
- They witnessed the how the multitudes listened to Jesus in Chapter 13.
- They witnessed the miricles of the 5 thousand being feed and Jesus walking on the water in Chapter 14.
- Religous leaders rebukes in chapter 15.
- They thought that the Kingdom would soon be established.
Now comes the revelation of the Calvary Road.
- How shocking it must have been to these men that Jesus came to die!
- The Street from where Pilot sentenced Jesus to Calvary was called "The Via Dolorosa"
- But the Calvary lead from the manger in bethlehem to the cross.
All of His life Jesus walked the Calvary Road.
- Our sins took Him to the cross.
- This was why He came to this world in first place.
The Common Reaction To The Calvary Road
read Matthew 16:22-23Peter Didn´t want to hear about the Calvary Road.
The world would like to find another way.
- Like a code of conduct that would save.
- A religious ceremony that would cleanse us of our sins
The need of the cross reveals our sinful condition.
- Now we learn the seriousness of our sin
- Only His blood can wash away our sin Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood.
Jesus would suffer and die at the hands of religious men.
Listen! Only Jesus can save us, not religion!
The Call To The Calvary Road
read Matthew 16:24-27The Calvary Road is the road to surrender.
Jesus praying in Gethsemane Matthew 26:36-46Obedient to the death on the cross. Philippians 2:5-8
The Calvary Road is the road of sacrifice Matthew 16:24-25
The Calvary Road is a road of service. Matthew 16:27
- Our service in the light of His sacrifice
- Our service in the light of His return
IN CONCLUSION
What about your commitment to the Road To Calvary?
Christ has walked this before you.
Will you follow Him there?
Matthew 16:21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Matthew 26:36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.
44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
46 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me. Obedient to the death on the cross.

Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
