The Ascension

Acts 1:1-11

Forty Days After The Resurrection

The number of full probation or ample demonstration

  1. Israel in the wilderness 40 years
  2. Ninevah to be destroyed in forty days
  3. Noah´s flood 40 days and 40 nights
  4. Jesus fasted 40 days while being tempted in the wilderness

Many appearances of the risen Christ during the following 40 days

The Neglected Experience

The Ascension is another mountaintop experience

  1. The Sermon on the Mount
  2. The Mount of Transfiguration
  3. The Olivet discourses
  4. The Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem

We can see 3 things in the Ascension of Christ

Christ Ascended To Prepare A Place

read Acts 1:2

The peaceful promises of the Upper Room  John 14:2

Before associated with His death
Now, as He ascends, the promises echo again

The Creator is preparing for us from then until now

We think too little of that prepared place

What does the hope of heaven mean to you?

Christ Ascended To Prepare His People

read Acts 1:4-8

The promise of the Father   John 14:16  John 14:26

The coming of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit to indwell believers   John 14:17

What the coming of the Holy Spirit would do

Provide power for witnessing   Acts 1:8
Provide peace for the afflicted   John 14:27
Provide power to live a Christian life   Galatians 5:22-23

Christ Ascended To Prepare For His Return

read Acts 1:6-11

The question about the Kingdom

Man´s curiosity about the time of Christ´s return
No one knows this sacred secret   Matthew 24:36

This same Jesus will return  Acts 1:11

What will happen when Jesus returns?

The saved will be resurrected   1 Thessalonians 4:13-16
Living believers will be caught up   1 Thessalonians 4:17

What is the ascended Christ doing now?

He is preparing a place for us   John 14:1-3
He is interceding for us   Hebrews 7:25
He is moving people and nations into His prophetic plan

Jesus will return right on time

Conclusion

Christ Prepared His Disciples For What Was Coming

Are You Prepared To Serve The Lord Until He Comes?

Are You Ready For Jesus´ Return?

Acts 1:1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:
3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
